The Friuli Venezia Giulia Choir presents an unusual program, Der Rose der Pilgerfahrt, op. 112, a Liederabend composed in 1851 based on a fairy tale poem in verse by Moritz Horn, a secular oratorio for soloists, choir, and piano characterized by simple melodies and rhythms, distinct from the tradition of oratorios on biblical texts with dramatic tones. The fairy tale tells the story of a little rose aspiring to human condition and love, going through sad moments to return, after death, to the Kingdom of the Elves. The piano, played on this occasion by Maestro Matteo Andri, accompanies the choir and soloists, led by Maestro Anna Molaro, throughout the entire fairy tale with the lyricism and poetics typical of Schumann's romantic Lied.
Parish Church of Santa Maria di Gorto
Situated on a rocky spur is the parish church of Santa Maria di Gorto, one of the oldest buildings of Friuli. The church is mentioned in documents in 1136 and 1299, but its origins would seem to be even older. This was demonstrated by the discovery of sculptural elements that can be attributed to a religious site dating back to the 8th century. The parish church stands as a basilica with three aisles and preserves valuable and rare relics like the frescoes of the 12th-13th century, depicting the Gospel parable of the ten virgins. A short distance from the parish church is the environmental tourist complex of Aplis, with the Museum of Wood and the Venetian Sawmill, a wildlife exhibition, a hotel and a restaurant, the perfect refreshment spot.
