The name of Cavazzo Carnico probably derives from the ancient Roman lookout Castrum Cabatinum. Along with the nearby villages of Mena, Somplago, and Cesclans, Cavazzo Carnico offers an area rich in nature trails and is ideal for fishing, rowing, sailing, mountain running and long walks. It also features the biggest lake formed by glaciers in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
