One of the most beautiful examples of the painting of the famous Gianfrancesco from Tolmezzo is preserved in the church of San Martin in Socchieve, a national monument. The small building preserves a magnificent cycle of frescoes, dated and signed in 1493, and the prestigious altarpiece, the last work of the master, completed by another painter in 1513. The frescoes of the sacristy are also admirable; together with some fragments that can be seen in the choir, they are part of a pictorial decoration dating back to the 13th century.
