The name Lauco probably derives from the Latin locus and the first historical mentions date back to 914.
The most typical town borough is Borgo Cavocjarie. The house of Elena Cimenti, which recalls the architecture of the past, and the parish church of All Saints, built starting in the 1700s, are also very characteristic. In Trava, the 16th-century church of the Santo Nome di Maria is worth seeing, as is the 18th-century Palazzo Beorchia, a typical example of arcaded Carnic architecture. The Madonna di Trava Sanctuary, one of the smallest, but most evocative, sanctuaries of Friuli is also worth a visit. Among the many possible walks, one of the most interesting is the one that leads to the pagan tombs. These are three ancient tombs, probably of the 6th-7th century AD, excavated in the rock and located in the town of Chiauians. On the Lauco plateau, there are three cross-country skiing trails, as well as mountain bike and trekking routes of scenic interest.
