The twinning with the Czech Republic continues with a collaboration between a young but already well established Italian pianist, Eloisa Cascio, who has performed throughout Europe, and the resident quartet Apollon.
On this occasion, they will play the second quintet, op. 81 by Dvořák for us. This piece is far from the classical style of Haydn in the direction of a more pregnant integration of Romantic, especially Brahmsian, and folk elements. Dvořák believed that the spirit of popular song had to be re-created, not by copying the people, but by reinventing new melodies on the model of popular music with the imagination.
Church of Santa Giuliana
Built in the 15th century, the church of Santa Giuliana in Fresis hosts a wonderful, complex cycle of frescoes in the old choir, the work of Giulio Urbanis (1588) from San Daniele. Fathers and doctors of the church, prophets and evangelists are depicted in the vault, while the walls display the doctrine of the apostles, sacred scenes and figures of saints. The main altar dates back to 1624 and is made of engraved, painted, and gilded wood. Saint John the Baptist, the Madonna and Child, and Saint Juliana are painted in the three niches.
